Robert Ruby Collection

A physician by vocation, Robert Ruby, ’43, was an historian by avocation. The author of more than a dozen well-researched books on Native American history, including several that remain in print today, Ruby donated his wide-ranging collection of art and ephemera – including books written and signed by every U.S. president since Hoover, two of Jacqueline Kennedy’s chairs, memorabilia from the space program, and a walrus tusk – to his beloved alma mater. Ruby received the Whitworth Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2007. His extensive research and other papers are in the collection of the Northwest Museum of Arts & Culture, in Spokane.
