Diamond Jubilee

Dedication, hard work, and a sustaining vision brought Whitworth to its 75th anniversary, in 1965. The campus celebrated its Diamond Jubilee that year with the promise of great things to come: a library expansion was under way, plans were set for the construction of the Eric Johnston Science Center, and technology improvements had streamlined registration and grading.

As part of the jubilee’s theme, “Academic Enrichment Toward Academic Excellence,” the campus community reflected on Whitworth’s history in unique ways. The public-relations department produced a full-color 30-minute documentary, “The Whitworth Way.” The college also hosted its own version of the popular 1950s TV show, “This Is Your Life.” Ralph Edwards, producer and host of the NBC hit show, emceed the program, “This Is Your Life – Whitworth College!”

The Whitworth Auxiliary took part in the celebration by presenting an antiques show and by promoting sales of a commemorative Diamond Jubilee plate, pictured here.
