Bill Robinson’s bike

The sight of a college president traveling on two wheels was a novelty when President Bill Robinson arrived at Whitworth, in 1993. That sight soon became commonplace: a bicycle was his preferred mode of transportation between his home, his office, the dining hall, and meetings around campus. During his 17 years as president, Robinson pedaled a series of hand-me-down bikes – nothing fancy, it should be noted – a few of which were stolen a time or two. By the time he retired, Robinson’s bike had come to symbolize a president who was seldom too busy to brake for conversations with students in The Loop.
