Place of service:

Why I Serve

I want to help students realize their educational dreams and establish goals to reach those dreams.

I recall when I first studied at Whitworth and how difficult it was to navigate through the whole college process. I can remember how many different times I wanted to change my major and I wasn’t even thinking about jobs at the end. Heck I didn’t even know all the possibilities available to me. Luckily through the power of the Internet, I am able guide students around some perils of entering college as well as the costs and benefits of different industries.

Not only does mentoring help others, but I become a better person, communicator and leader through the use of reflective practices. As I help others constructively, I notice the shortcomings of myself. The Dalai Lama once said “I have a precious human life, I am not going to waste it. I am going to use all my energies to develop myself, to expand my heart out to others; to achieve enlightenment for the benefit of all beings”. Through the reflection of myself and development of others, I am able to serve.

How I Serve allows me to reach students all over the United States entering college or trying to figure out college. Some students want answers to simple questions. Other students have been my mentees for a longer term and have entered in areas of occupational therapy, marketing, and computer science to name a few.
