Why I Serve
I believe service is essential, I believe everybody should give back to the community. We all need to lend a hand in our community – whether locally or internationally – to help repair the world and give back to all that has been given to us regardless of religion, race or orientation. I learned this growing up, at Whitworth, and through my Jewish faith.
How I Serve
My husband and I began this food drive at our family-owned business 19 years ago. We are fortunate to operate such a successful business. We wanted to find a way to help the local community and to be a role model for our children, our community, and other businesses as to how they can give back.
I have taken the lead for most of those years planning and implementing various fundraising events that help to support this drive. It has grown over the years, and we now provide boxes of food to support approximately 1,000 families. We also give many of those families grocery gift cards so they can further stock their pantries. We hold an annual packing day/car show prior to Thanksgiving to pack over 1,600 boxes each year. We are happy to give back to our local community and also take pride in how many others help us with this tremendous task.
