Place of service: American Cancer Society

Why I Serve

The biggest thing for me is just to give back. We get pretty caught up in our busy lives and I’ve worked in a corporation for the last nine years and its difficult to step back and realize there are those less fortunate. It’s a small drop in the bucket of things to be involved with but I figure there are a lot of people dealing with cancer, whether they’ve survived it or are struggling with it, so people should sit back and recognize that.

How I Serve

I’ve been working with the American Cancer Society for the last five years and  am an office team captain. Each office has one annual event to do with the American Cancer Society. I’ve been involved with Relay for Life five times and have also been involved in volunteering in a local cancer society golf tournament. We are currently doing a project known as Quarter of Caring where each office gets involved with a local charity of their choice for the last quarter of the year.  I am also a member of the National Charitable Contributions committee that oversees some of the offices.

We raise a lot of money and we’re a very competitive group so it’s fun to see what we can do and how we can increase what we raise. It’s also fun to go to the events and see everything and know the money is going to a good cause.
